They order a translator, but if you stay in the hospital, let’s say for 4–5 days… I was there for 3 days. They would come and ask me things, but I did not understand them.

We need to look at the broader picture in her story. She does not have an education, and did not know how to read or write. She has also previously experienced a stillbirth and has not been used to giving birth in a hospital setting. Many factors interlink and makes it more complex.

A support person before birth, during birth and the time after birth is very important for many of the women with refugee backgrounds. Support before and after birth is very crucial.
